Why Freemake is free?
We are sure that commercial software becomes outdated and useless since numerous free programs deliver the same or even better quality and functionality. No doubt, we are considering the ways of software monetization but this doesn't mean that one day Freemake will stop being free, the existing functionality will be always available at no cost. We all know successful stories of Skype and Firefox, why Freemake cannot continue the list?
What does Freemake live on?
Freemake.com project is financed by a private sponsor who wants to deliver quality software to the world market. However, Freemake plans to get additional revenue from advertising to be able to provide further software development and support.
How to send you a file for testing?
We use the service FileFactory.com. Send a letter with the subject “FileFactory” to support@freemake.com, and you'll get login and password. Upload your file, and report us its name.
Will you develop the Mac version?
Upon numerous requests, we decided that one day we'll start the development of software version for Mac OS. The timeline hasn't been discussed yet.
Is it legal to download video content with exclusive rights?
Freemake software contains the special coding which allows to download videos from the web.
The universal nature of the program code can't filter video sharing websites, in particular block some of them and manage the other at the same time.
Therefore, you take all the responsibility for the online content selection to download. Freemake Video Downloader is just a tool helping you to download various online videos, the final decision to download the specific video is left to the end user.

What is CUDA?
CUDA is a revolutionary technology invented and developed by NVIDIA for its graphics cards (GeForce 8 series or later). CUDA outsources some tasks normally handled by CPU to GPU. Integrated into Freemake Video Converter, CUDA technology lets accelerate the conversion with support for H.264 codec by many times.
What is DXVA?
DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) is Microsoft's technology that uses graphics card resources to assist with video decoding (CUDA deals with video encoding). In Freemake Video Converter DXVA is used for decoding of video with H.264 and MPEG2 video codecs. It allows users to boost conversion of HD and DVD video by 50%
What is FreemakeUtilsService for?
FreemakeUtilsService is designed for Freemake software improvement and serves for accumulating crash reports and usage statistics information only. It is installed only upon user's consent ("Help make Freemake software better..." box in the installation). We're bound by our Privacy policy terms which claim that none of your personal information is collected (incl. email addresses, logins, passwords, IP addresses, visited webpages, your location or contact information). The service runs when you're online and chooses the most appropriate time for reports sending when our servers are not overloaded. In future we're planning to use FreemakeUtilsService for automatic software updates.
What is FreemakeVideoCapture?
Freemake Video Capture is a necessary component of Freemake Video Downloader. It analyzes information coming from a video web page in order to detect the video source. Thus, the program quickly picks up the needed video file when a user pastes a URL for download. Due to this service, video download from almost any website becomes possible. Please don't disable Freemake Video Capture because the software will stop functioning.
What is the toolbar for?
The toolbar integrated within Freemake software is an optional browser addon that gives users an instant access to popular web destinations and services. The next toolbar version will also serve as a basis for new Freemake applications. We offer to install the toolbar because it brings us rewards to maintain project and develop new software.
How to remove the toolbar?
Go to Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features in Win 7 and Vista or Control Panel>Add or Remove Program in XP, select FreemakeTB toolbar, and then click Uninstall.
How to restore search and home page after toolbar removal?
Chrome: go to Tools> Settings and change Home page and Search (view the image).

Firefox: to change Home page go to Tools> Options> General, choose your home page (view the image); to change Search engine, click the down arrow next to the search engine's icon, then Manage Search engines, and choose among the services list (view the image).

IE: go to Tools> Internet options> General, change Home page, then click Settings for Search, choose the needed search engine and press Set default (view the image).

While installation, the program asked me to run .Net Framework 4.0. Client Profile, I rejected. Now the software seems impossible to run. How to fix it?
Our software requires .Net Framework 4.0. Client Profile that is usually installed to a PC together with Freemake software. In case you rejected the installation of .Net 4.0 Client Profile, you can download it from Microsoft website and install manually.
I have converted/downloaded a video, and can't find it on my hard drive disk. What is its directory?
If you haven't changed the directory, by default the videos are saved to User/Videos
Can I rip Blu-ray with your software?
Unprotected only. Just open up the BDMV/STREAM folder on the Blu-Ray disc and add M2TS or MTS files to Freemake Video Converter. We recommend to rip Blu-Ray files to AVI, MKV, or MP4.
I have cut a video, pressed "OK", and closed the program. Then the original video was not changed. How can I do it?
You have to convert the video to some format. Otherwise, changes will be unsaved.
The resolution of my video was not changed after the conversion, why?
You must have chosen the parameter "Up to" (which renders the video UP TO a certain resolution but no bigger than the input one). Establish "Custom" image size in the preset editor to get video of the needed resolution.
How to convert video to FLV?
You can use Freemake as FLV converter: just add a video, choose FLV as the output format, check the box "Embed video to my web page" if you need the embed code, and click convert. Watch the tutorial How to convert video to Flash FLV/SWF.
How to download unavailable videos using a proxy server?
First you should find a proxy server (better in the USA), you may use these search results.
Then go to “Options”, choose the tab “Connection”, enable Proxy, and enter the server information: HTTP address and port.
Why YouTube/Facebook/Vkontakte account is needed for video download?
Some videos require authorization both for playback and download, e.g. private ones. Enter only the account details with which you have access to a particular video.
