Introduction to Video Editing on YouTube

Most of you know how to make simple video editing like removing black bars or reducing video file size before uploading it to YouTube. Though, not everyone knows that now it’s possible to edit video right on YouTube. With the new YouTube settings you can change audio track of your video, add annotations, adjust the picture by correcting the colours or using various filters.

After you upload a video on YouTube click “Edit” to make changes.

Colour Adjustment

In case your video is too bright, too dark or lacks in colours you can either use one of the filters provided by YouTube or correct the colours manually or automatically. Go to Enhancements and choose the option that suits you most.

As you see you can also rotate the video or crop out those video parts you don’t need. For doing it click “Trim” buttom right under the video. Just remember one thing: whatever changes you make don’t forget to save them by clicking on “Save” blue buttom at the top-right corner.

Audio Editing

Since YouTube is pretty strict about copyright violetion users must rack their brains to find a song they could use for the video. If your song is blocked you can try to add another one without reuploading the video on the site.

Click “Edit” –> “Audio” and then choose one of the 150, 000+ tracks approved by YouTube.

Annotation

Many people like to add various titles, comments, notes, labels or copyrights on their videos. Sometimes there could be additional phrases that will help to understand your video better. If you want to do it, go to “Annotations” tab, choose the type of the message (note, title, speech bubble etc) and add any censorial text you like.

Captions

This tab will be useful if you want to add captions or subtitles to your video. It will be of much service to viewers with hearing disabilities and people who speak other languages. Click “Upload caption file or transcript” and choose a proper file on your PC.

Advanced Editing

Those of you who can use Windows Movie Maker may benefit from an advanced YouTube video Editor. When you click on “Enhancements” you can see an arrow (at the right-bottom corner) inviting you to try a new YouTube Video editor. Apart from adding audio, subtitles or any other text you can also add transitions for photo presentations or videos that contain several parts. Look through all of them and add those you like to your videos by dragging them to the black editing line.
